Facelift

Premiere 6 March

A dramedy about the pursuit of a happy life

This show is spoken in Finnish.

Facelift is a warm-hearted and hilariously funny play about whose dreams we try to build our lives upon.

Sami is a 40-year-old man suffering from a serious case of baby fever. His best friend Markus, meanwhile, is a single father of three trying to manage the chaos of family life on his own. Sami’s sister Henna desperately wants to become a mother, but getting pregnant turns out to be more difficult than expected. Pesonen, who dreams of a life of his own, has ended up caring for his elderly parents, while Sami and Henna’s widowed mother Seija searches for new meaning in life now that her husband has been laid to rest and the children are all grown up.

The lives of the story’s five main characters intertwine as each of them stumbles along in pursuit of what they imagine to be a happy life.

Facelift explores starting a family, the search for love, loneliness, longing, the parent–child relationship, and the many twists and turns of family life. Look forward to a funny and deeply human dramedy whose irresistible humour springs from familiar and tragicomic situations.

For Oulu Theatre, Aleksis Meaney has created a fresh new stage adaptation of Miika Nousiainen’s novel, and he also directs the play.
