Learning more about theatre

Oulu Theatre’s Youth Stage is back, and this time we’re forming a group for a full two-year journey into the world of theatre!

Youth Stage offers young people aged approximately 14 to 18 the chance to explore and create theatre under the guidance of professional theatre artists. Participants will dive into all aspects of theatre-making – from playwriting and set design to acting and performance.

The shared creative process will culminate in a production or other performance-based projects, giving everyone a chance to shine on stage and behind the scenes.

Launched in October 2015, the Oulu Theatre Youth Stage has become hugely popular. The Youth Stage offers young people in the Oulu region a new hobby and the opportunity to do theatre under the guidance of professionals.

Application

Applications for Youth Stage are now open for the next two years. Apply for the entrance auditions by August 22 using this form. Auditions will be held at Oulu Theatre’s Pikisali on August 28 from 5 pm to 8 pm.

We’re looking for young people who are enthusiastic about theatre and ready to commit to working together – sometimes intensively, especially before performances. Theatre can be time-consuming, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. No prior experience or special skills are required. You don’t need to be a theatre hobbyist – just bring your curiosity and willingness to try!

We want to promote equality in all our activities, which is why we welcome applications from young people of all ages, backgrounds and genders. A perfect command of the Finnish language is not a prerequisite. The language of theatre is universal, and the stage belongs to everyone. We are extremely happy to have had such a diverse group of applicants in the past.

The Youth Stage costs €100 for the autumn season and €100 for the spring season. If the semester fee is a concern, please contact the theatre’s audience outreach coordinator. Participants from low-income backgrounds may be eligible for a fee waiver.
