Directions for arrival

Oulu Theatre is at magnificent location overlooking the sea right next to the Market Square on Vänmanni island.

As the theatre is right in the city centre, it is easy to reach by foot. Oulu has been chosen the best winter cycling city in the world, which means that there are also good cycling routes to the theatre. There is a bike rack in front of the theatre building, where you can leave your bike for the duration of your visit.

If you arrive at the theatre by bus, you can forget the stress of trying to find a parking space. Oulu Regional Transport buses run within walking distance of the theatre. For more information about bus timetables, visit the Oulu Regional Transport website.

Oulu railway station is some 1.5 km from the theatre. You can get from the station to the theatre along Hallituskatu, through Otto Karhi Park and along Pakkahuoneenkatu to Kaarlenväylä. For train timetables, visit the VR website.

Please get to the theatre on time, as latecomers will not be admitted to the auditorium until the interval.

Parking

The theatre does not have its own car park. The most convenient place to park your car is the underground Kivisydän car park, which is located right next to the theatre. The closest lift to Kivisydän is at Kauppurienkatu 8.

Parking spaces are also available at Autoranta in front of the Radisson Blu Hotel. Parking is subject to a charge. The closest parking spaces may be full, so please allow enough time for parking.

Please note: Due to ongoing renovations at the library and in the Market Square, their car parks are not currently in use.

Cloakroom

The cloakroom charge is €3 per person. There is also an unattended cloakroom that is free of charge.

Programme

The programme booklet will add depth to your theatre experience and give you more information about the piece, the people behind it and its making. Programmes are available for sale at the box office and cloakroom. The price of the programme varies from €2 to €5, depending on the production.

Interval

If the performance includes an interval, it is separately announced. The duration of the interval is around 20 minutes. You can purchase interval refreshments in advance from the Oulu Theatre online store up to two days before the performance or on site before the performance. By ordering your refreshments in advance, you skip the queues during the interval.

Stages

The Oulu Theatre has a total of four stages:

  • Main stage (seats 530)
  • Small stage (seats 133)
  • Vinttikamari (seats 79)
  • Pikisali (seats 150)

Accessibility

All facilities at the Oulu Theatre are accessible. There is a lift to the upper floors to the right of the lobby, near Restaurant Aulis. Our staff will be happy to assist you if needed!

Please indicate that you will be using a wheelchair when purchasing your ticket. There are two wheelchair seats per performance on all the stages. A seat for an assistant is included in the price of a wheelchair ticket. Wheelchair and assistant tickets can be purchased at the box office, via telephone and on Lippu.fi. In case of any enquiries about possible additional seats, please contact the box office.

Assistants (for a visually impaired or disabled person or a war veteran, for example) will receive a free ticket. These tickets are available at the Oulu Theatre box office, Kaarlenväylä 2.

Hearing aid system

The theatre’s main stage is equipped with a hearing aid system. In addition, there are audio induction loops (hearing loops) in Pikisali and at the box office. The other stages are not equipped with any hearing aid systems. If you do not have a hearing aid of your own, the theatre can provide you with an infrared receiver and headphones.

If you have a hearing aid, we will provide you with an infrared receiver and a neckband for the audio induction loop device. You can only use the system if your hearing aid has a T (Telecoil) setting. When the hearing aid is set into the T mode, the device will receive the stage audio via the neckband device.
