A touching story of small and big life changes
We all long for shelter – walls to protect us from the wind and freezing cold, but above all, people who love us and make our shelter a home. Nevertheless, life is movement, and sometimes the renovator’s sledgehammer hits the wall, and the force of change shakes us to the core.
Destination is set in an ordinary Finnish apartment block, where the residents go through life changes, big and small, over the course of a couple of weeks. Familiar patterns change as a young man moves in for the first time, an only child moves out, a new side of a spouse emerges, and the walls around a shut-in begin to break down.
”I feel like I’m disappearing somewhere. Can you hold my hand?”
Destination is a new Finnish play about a multilingual and multicultural Finland. In the play, several languages are spoken inside and outside the walls, just like in most apartment buildings inhabited by human beings today.
“Life is movement – it pushes us to move and to seize the moment. Sometimes life demands us to leave what is familiar and safe. Just when we think we’ve arrived to the destination, the wind starts to blow again, forcing us to move on. In our performance, each character is forced to take a step towards something personal – towards their own space and their own answers”, says director Heta Haanperä.
Performance languages are Finnish, English and Arabic and there will be English and Easy Finnish subtitles.
